On buying used records
Aquiring used vinyl these days is actually really easy.  There’s always flea markets, thrift stores, record fairs and music stores. Good stuff is still out there, even in the $1 bins. Some tips: Don’t go straight for your genre, browse everything. Some people who browse the dark, danky basement vinyl section of a record shop are assholes and won’t place items back where they...

Red-Headed Stranger - Willie Nelson (1975)
Like most classic country albums, Red-Headed Stranger is a conglomeration of standards and original tunes, except that the album and original tunes were arranged by one of the best songwriters ever. Taking the songs and making a concept album of love, lust, greed and revenge, Nelson made a classic.  Listen with large speakers, boots, and a bottle of whiskey.

Francis and the Lights - A Modern Promise
This record. Just go buy it.  Even if you don’t like this kind of music (which I don’t), you’ll still be so blown away. Francis nails a lot of city emotions in this record, and seriously, the B-Side (vinyl only) is so killer, it’s worth the price you pay alone.

"American Flags" - David Bazan (2009) (single)
The first single off the upcoming David Bazan album is backed with a demo of “Please, Baby, Please.”  The production quality is kind of low for both sides of the 7”, but Bazan’s voice and his apparent new musical direction shown on American Flags builds up anticipation for the forthcoming record.

Pink Floyd - Meddle (1971)
Shown here in picture disc form (as your narrator enjoys it the most), Pink Floyd struck a grand chord.  Sylistically shifting gears between nearly every song, the band then creates a sonic wonderland on the B-side with “Echoes.”  Definitely stop everything you are doing whenever you put this one on and you should probably close your eyes, too.

Boston - Boston (1976)
One of the best overproduced albums to ever grace a turntable anywhere, Boston’s epynomous debut stills rocks.  While some LP’s have a “good” and “bad” side, this one is pretty consistent through the entire affair.  On many Top 10 Best Debut’s of all time lists.

Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever (1989)
Tom Petty’s solo debut in 1989 is the sountrack that will play everyday when we all get to heaven. Summer and happiness personified in song. Classic lead off track with Free Fallin’ and stellar all the way through. Make sure the amp is cranked when this one comes on.

Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska (1982)
Bruce’s 6th album, recorded in his home with a 4-track is one of the most beautiful albums ever released by Columbia Records. Sparse arrangements and little studio frills, which are typical hallmarks of a Bruce Springsteen album, this album begs you to grab your cans and lay on the floor next to the turntable.
